ABOUT US

VP Power Systems was first founded in April 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aiming to be geographically situated in Africa based on the strong motive of the members to help the continent in bridging the knowledge and expertise gap in the sector of electrical power systems. VP then evolved and now has an international office in Sittard, the Netherland. We’ve worked on dozens of projects with a mission to help in maintaining the quality and reliability of the electrical energy system through continuous adaptation of state-of-the-art technologies, knowledge transfer, and practices that are responsive to sustainable development, socio-economic growth, and environmental protection.

Meet the Team

Our team consists of engineers, researchers, and university professors with extensive theoretical and practical experience in the field of electrical power systems for over 20 years. Members have been working, consulting, monitoring, and providing training/ teaching in power quality and reliability of electricity networks, renewable energy, energy savings, power electronics, and micro-grids. Projects have been carried out in various industries at different locations in the world.

Herwart Gartner

Herwart Gärtner has received his master degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialty in Power Quality. In 2015 he started together, with several partners, VP Electrical Power Systems in Ethiopia. Providing consultancy in renewable energy and electrical power systems. In 2019 VP international was opened and he became the managing director.

Alula Yohannes Taddesse

Alula Yohannes, obtained his MSc in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Smart Grids from Grenoble Institute of Technology, is an expert in the area of power quality, micro-grid and energy saving. He acquired extensive experience in the area of power system operation, power quality analysis and mitigation for industries, sustainable electricity access and capacity building programs.

Kosei Shinoda

Kosei Shinoda received his Ph.D. from Centrale Lille, France, in 2018, for his work on the control and operation of HVDC systems. He has over 8 years of experience working as a research engineer and contributed as a scientific expert in various European projects.

Scientific Advisor

J.F.G. Cobben

J. F. G. (Sjef) Cobben is a Professor at TU/e Department of Electrical Engineering. He started his career in 1979 at PGEM and worked for more than 40 years at the network company Alliander. In 2009, he founded the company CO-Education, providing knowledge services and education in the field of electrical engineering, in particular regarding power quality, smart grids, and the sustainability of the electricity supply. His areas of expertise are LV- and MV-network safety, power quality, and safety of installations connected to the networks. This is of relevance to smart grid technologies, the integration of renewable energy sources, and the compatibility of devices, installations, and networks.
